This lovely village cottage, set in the heart of St Denis Le Gast near Gavray in southern Normandy, has been converted from 2 cottages providing spacious accomadation but still retaining a cosy cottage feel. It has 2 large double bedrooms upstairs. There is a country kitchen/diner, a separate lounge with a wood burning stove which provides central heating throughout. It also benefits from a separate utility room or cuisine arriere. There is a downstairs shower room and separate toilet. At the back is a lovely garden with brick built barbecue and is ideal for relaxing and sunbathing. To the front is a small terrace patio where you can sit and soak up the village life.p The boulangerie and local shop can be seen 100 yards up the lane. With a hotel and 2 bars only 150 yards away. There are open fields heading off from the cottage with many walk ways leading into beautiful unspoilt countryside.p

From the front door you enter into the bright country kitchen/diner which has a large farmhouse table and can seat 6 people easily. This is the heart of the house and is cosy and welcoming. It has a wood- burning stove in the fireplace. Cooking is by a gas bottle cooker and microwave. There is a fridge with a freezer in the utility room that has a separate sink and worktop which is an ideal area for preparing the barbecue food, lots of extra storage too.

Off the kitchen is the cosy lounge with wood burning stove providing central heating for the whole cottage. There is a sofa and chairs providing seating for 6. From either the kitchen or the lounge you can enter into the back hallway that leads you to the useful utility room with washing machine and freezer and storage for boots or beach equipment. Next to this is the toilet and a separate pretty shower room with washbasin. It is located with easy access to the stairs without going through any communal rooms.

From the hallway a wooden staircase leads to the 2 very large double bedrooms. The bedrooms are large bright and airy and look out over the front to neighbouring cottages and fields beyond. Both the bedrooms can sleep up to 3 if required with 1 double bed and 1 single. This brings the occupancy up to 6. There are wardrobes, chests of drawers and bedside tables with lamps. The views from the bedrooms look out over the front to neighbouring cottages and fields beyond. All bed linen is provided.


At the front of the cottage is a lovely little terrace where you can sit and enjoy the sun and soak up the village life. The path at the front leads up to the boulangerie and shop only 100 yards away. If you go down the lane it opens into beautiful countryside with many designated walks. The rear garden is enclosed and accessed either from the utility room or down the side drive and has mature shrubs, trees and a brick built Mexican style barbecue. A great place to sunbathe and relax.

There is parking at the side of the property for a small car but the village square is only feet away providing ample parking for any number of vehicles.

Local Area Details

St Denis Le Gast is a small village but not isolated. All the local major towns can be reached very easily and there is very little traffic. Coutances is about 10 miles away with its wonderful cathedral and churches, not to mention the shops. Avranches which is the gateway to Brittany and Mont St Michel is only 20 miles drive South and full of bars, restaurants, cafes, gardens, sports and water park, reptilarium. St Lo is 30 minutes drive and is steeped in the history surrounding the 2nd World War.

The area around St Denis is renowned for its beautiful countryside and there are many designated walks nearby. It is great for cycling too. If you want a beach holiday then this is also easy to get to being only about 20 minutes drive to a whole coastline of wonderful clean beaches where you can swim, sunbathe and enjoy water sports in high season. The port and town of Granville is only 25 minutes drive and from here Jersey can be reached on a boat day trip.
The whole area is steeped in history and this year is the 60th Anniversaire of the DD Landings. The Landing beaches are 40 minutes drive north and the beaches themselves are outstanding.

Countances & cathedral ar 10 miles. Mont St Michel is 1 hours drive. DDay Landing Beaches 40 minutes. Port Bessin 40 minutes. Granville 20 minutes. Beaches only 20 minutes drive away at St Pair sur Mer, Monmartin sur Mer, Regneville sur Mer, St Martin de Brehal, Jullouville, Carrolles, and many more.

There are many small lakes and fishing is available on the local rivers stocked with trout, perch, carp and salmon.

In fact there is so much to do it would be impossible to list. The local tourist office 5km away in Gavray is a mine of information and an updated tourist folder is kept for guests in the cottage. Trust me you will not be lost for something to do!
