Beautifully set on the grounds of a 16th century chateau is this cosy stone cottage, 60 km south of Toulouse and only 25 km to the Pyrenees.

Set in 80 acres park and wood, it is the ideal place for lovers of unspoilt rural nature. 19th century chapel, terrace, pond. Very quiet location (no neighburs, no traffic).

The two self catering holiday cottages are located in the former caretakers buildings. Both have recently been renovated and can welcome 2-3 people each. Although located near the main building they have their very private atmosphere, as they are surrounded by bushes and trees.

The pool is shared with guests of the B&B in the Chateau.

Cottage "La Maisonnette"
is the picturesque 18th century caretakers cottage which offers very nice views to the countryside. From the balcony, you can watch the wild animals, such as wild boar and deer. It also has its own sunny terrace. Ground floor: living room with fireplace, TV, DVD, phone, kitchen. The sofa in the living area is convertible to a single bed (or for two kids). First floor: sleeping room for 2 people with queen size bed (180 x 200 cm), bathroom, balcony.

Local Area Details

Due to its idyllic location, the Chateau is the ideal place to relax, but it is also a good starting point for seightseeing trips.

The cultural highlights of the Couserans, such as the old towns of St. Lizier and Foix, or the world wide known attractions such as Lourdes, Carcassonne or the cathedral of St. Bertrand de Comminges are all within one hour driving distance.

Horse riding trips as well as guided hiking trips to the Pyrenees ans the Corbieres can be arranged.

About Transport

Due to the remonte location of the site, it is recommended to bring a car. Car rental is possible at the airport or at the train station of Toulouse. There is no public transport.

About History

This splendid Château, first built in 1544 by a famous family of glass manufacturers, is situated in the heart of the peaceful and romantic Couserans. During the centuries, it was often modified until at the end of the 19th century, by adding the south western wing with the enormous winter garden, it looks as it does today. Napoléon III often stayed in the Château de Poudelay when he was travelling to Spain. One suite was always on his disposal, it's our ' Chambre Napoléon '. The interior has many attractive original elements, i.e. marble fireplaces in almost all rooms, original wallpaper in the 'Petit Salon', huge wooden stairs, parquet floors and the old kitchen. Most impressive are the 'Jardin d'Hiver' (Winter Garden) with its splendid French windows and the enormous fireplace.
