Our Stowe Vermont - New England Vacation Condo for Rent:

Our Stowe, Vermont rental condo house, really our "pied à terre", is sited on the hill overlooking the West Branch Valley that runs from the village of Stowe to Stowe mountain - actually Mt. Mansfield. This stream offers nearby fly fishing.

With the "perfect" New England Village of Stowe (yes, it does have white clapboard steeples and a general store) just 4 miles down Mountain Rd. and our very own set of mountains surrounding our valley, how can we not feel that we're in the heart of New England? The views are classic.

Our Stowe, Vermont rental condo is within Topnotch Resort & Spa with all the resort facilities at hand: pools, tennis, tennis center and full spa. The spa, tennis courts and pools are just across the way past the tennis courts and yoga pad.

We are on the ground floor with a grass front yard and a forest glade of birches, maples, and interspersed hemlocks. All this we share with the three neighboring condos. When we look out over our lawn and trees we feel that we are in the heart of Vermont. It must be Mt. Mansfield that does it.

The real point of the condo is that one entire wall from floor to ceiling is glass and looks out on our beloved tress. Enjoy cooking (or calling room service from the resort) and watching the squirrels at work. Nighttime, you'll see a deer or two come in for a munch of grass.

Our Stowe, Vermont rental condo is just two rooms : a living area with gas fireplace and open kitchen - all bounded on one side by a wall of glass. The single bedroom has one king bed. There is also a pull out Queen size sofa in the main living area.

The master bedroom is at the back with a warm, bright feel.

Where Our New England Stowe Resort Rental Condo Is We Situated:

Our Stowe vacation condo sits on a hill above the Mountain Road ( Route #108) that leads, one way for 4 miles into Stowe and the other way for 3 ½ miles to Mt. Mansfield and then on to Smugglers Notch ( road through notch is closed in the winter).

Just below us and across the horse meadows is the West Branch Creek - where Fly Fishing is excellent and access is easy. This same stream is a gentle canoe or kayak when the water is up and running. In any event, it is a fine stream for children to play along. Also along this stream runs a paved bike and walking route - all the way into town. The path has its own hump back bridges over the stream and winds through meadows, along an out door sculpture gallery, by restaurants and pubs and then in to the heart of our New England village with its perfect white steeples, art galleries, antiques and general store.


Views:
When we look out our living room windows, we are looking into a glade of mature birch trees across 50 yards of lawn. Over the brow of the hill - just beyond the birch trees is a mountain brook. You can't however see it.

Ski House Rental
Through the birches is Mt. Mansfield ( highest in Vermont ) and its flanks. Although we can see Mt. Mansfield we are not on the slopes. If we were to call ourselves a New England rental ski condo, it would be with respect to cross country skiing, which can be done out the front door. Of course the downhill runs are just a 3.5 mile drive up the valley - a drive that be done in the regular shuttle service of the resort rather than in your own car..


Nearby to Our House Keeping Vacation Condo:
Our condo sits adjacent to two of Topnotch at Stowe's tennis courts and just up the hill from many more. For rainy or winter days, we also have a set of indoor tennis courts just across Mountain Road from us. We are also close to the pools and the newly re-built (Dec. 2004) spa. If you want a small house keeping condo in Stowe, Vermont, New England we are in prime territory for a typical Vermont experience.


Up through Topnotch Resort, up the hill, there is a network of wooded bridle/running/rough walking trails and, in the winter, cross country ski trails. These trails will take you up onto the hill's crown and down into glades where the stream starts that runs under the hill next to our house
The hillside is forested with maples, birch, pine, and hemlock. The trails are rough and cared for only by those who pass by. You will be alone in your own New England Forest - just up the hill from us.

Cost
The fact is that our condo is priced a little higher than others that you might find for rent in Stowe. The reason for our higher cost is that the resort provides you with many services that you would not be getting at a regular rental house not connected to a resort.

Resort Facilities At Hand to New England Vacation Condo:

You are not alone around us as we are next to Topnotch Resort's main buildings. Our house is in a small block of town homes close to the main resort buildings. The new spa is right next to us. Part of the spa is an exercise facility, indoor pool (yes, you can do laps in it) and an outdoor pool shaded by birches and maples. The grounds are spotted with modern sculpture by local artists.

Again, the tennis academy at Stowe is a solid resource with excellent instructors from around the world and a children's program that can act like a summer day camp.

Children's Programs
During peak holidays and through the summer, the resort has a relationship with an excellent young peoples day care/camp experience program that is just down the road form us.

Catering:
We aren't always keen to do all the shopping and cooking when we have a big group staying with us, so we just call the Resort's catering team and they take care of it all for us. Once, when 11 of us came in from a day of skiing the two mountains, there was a birthday celebration all set up and waiting to go. The server cleaned up and then made it all disappear. Together we set up breakfast for an early Sunday morning start before a snow shoe trek along the West Branch that we'd planned.

Restaurants and Bars:
There are two restaurants at Topnotch Resort, plus one family Italian just down the hill and plenty of all varieties just down Mountain Road toward Stowe. There are a couple of great ski bars including the one at Topnotch with it's sunken seating well from the seventies and a warm wood feeling. Closer to the mountain and to the town, there are two bars with bands and a lot of action over the weekend.

Resort Services:
Because we are part of a resort, there are a lot of services and benefits that come with our house:

Car Service:
The bellmen have a small fleet of Lexus SUV's to transfer you or your children into Stowe, to the children' programs, and to the mountain and back.

During the winter, there are regular shuttles to and from the mountain and you can always call the bell men for a car during midday.

Concierge & Groceries:
If you need groceries and prepared foods ordered and delivered for you the resort's concierges can take care of that for you. Same, of course, for your wine shop needs.

Room Service:
If you don't need catering but just some meals brought in now and then, the resort's waiters can run food up to the house. You just pick up the phone and dial the room service number. There are menus by the phone for you.

Spa & Exercise:
The spa is a full service one with all the goodies. It has just been rebuilt and expanded.
Exercise, Yoga, Pilates, Tai'Chi, stretching and water aerobics classes all run regularly. There will be a list of them by the phone and the Concierge can pre-book you into anything you like.

The spa program is extensive and even has dermatologists available.

Catering:
As we mentioned before, the resort can take care of your catering needs. The chef is terrific.

Tennis Center and Academy:
Back in the seventies, Topnotch began to build a Tennis program. We now have indoor courts, outdoor courts next to our stream and a cadre of instructors from around the world - with Australia and The Czech Republic figuring heavily in the mix. Out program director is Milan Kubula and he is a truly caring in the development of young and old tennis aficionados.

Milan has set of innovative, active programs for kids. The programs can become all-day tennis adventures.
